Full-Time Postdoctoral Researcher in Mouse Optogenetics

Brookmans Park, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

This is a three year fixed term contract ending 31 March 2016. We seek a postdoctoral scientist with a background in genetics and musculoskeletal physiology. You will work on a BBSRC funded project, ‘Foundations of Neuromechanical Systems Biology’.

This is an exciting and exceptionally interdisciplinary project that seeks to understand how the neural and mechanical systems of legged animals work together to enable them to move at high speed, despite the feedback delays inherent in the nervous system. It seeks answers to questions such as “How is sensory feedback used during fast locomotion?” and “How does motor noise structure the control optimization performed by the nervous system?”

You will have a PhD in a biological discipline with experience of molecular biology and ideally musculoskeletal or neuromuscular physiology (see PS). Experience in the generation of transgenic mice and/or optogenetics would be advantageous. The project will involve extensive handling and working with mice.
